Hort, Fenton John Antony
(1828–92)
   Theologian.
   Hort was educated at Rugby School under Thomas arnold and at the University of Cambridge. Subsequently he taught at the university and ultimately was appointed Lady Margaret Professor. He is known for his New Testament scholarship, particularly for his work with B.F. westcott on the Greek text which was finally published in 1881.
   He also prepared the Book of Wisdom and II Maccabees for the new Revised Version and was the author of Judaistic Christianity and the Christian Ecclesia, both published posthumously. Hort, together with Westcott and J.B. lightfoot, is remembered as one of a triumvirate of remarkable Cambridge New Testament scholars.
